From the series ‘Slow Motion’
Rogier Houwen’s thoughtful approach to photography makes him a rarity in our society obsessed with everything fast and new. His longing for silence and emptiness brings a desire to reconnect with nature. His new project Slow Motion is an invitation to slow down and explore our ways of seeing. The starting point is the act of our observing ordinary objects under extraordinary circumstances.
Through studying a detail of a plastic bag in darkness or a choreography of burnt matches, he shares what remains hidden at high speed. It is not what we’re looking at that determines our experience, but it’s our way of seeing it.
